Everyone loves their pets, but some want to take them everywhere. While the rules for pets on public transit vary by agency, service animals are always allowed as long as they are leashed. MUNI
  • Service animals must be leashed and under owner’s control
  • Non-service animals cannot ride during weekday commute hours
  • (5-9 AM & 3-7 PM)
  • All other pets must be carried in small closed pet containers
  • Fares equal to the owners must be paid for your pal
AC Transit
  • Service animals must be leashed and under owner’s control
  • Other pets brought on the bus must be in a secure container and small enough to fit on the owners lap
  • With all animals, the owner is responsible for any damage or injury caused while on the bus
  • The driver can remove the animal and the passenger solely at his discretion
Golden Gate Transit
  • Pets are permitted on buses as long as they are in an approved carrier
BART
  • BART allows small pet in carriers on all their trains
Oakland/Alameda County Ferry
  • Special assistance animals and animals in hand-carried carriers are allowed
Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry
  • Special assistance animals and animals in hand-carried carriers are allowed
